I did it!!!!

I am so excited right now!!! I've made it to the end 50,536 words as of 10.58 on November 28th, 2014

My name has a pretty purple bar that says winner on it. And yes, I already ordered my "2014 Winner" t-shirt. It has a knight and a dragon on it. How could I resist! LOL

This has been a crazy month and if not for a number of other authors cheering me on I never would have made it. Roxy Mews and her daily check ins on facebook. (that she kept writing even when she passed the finish line herself!) Tracey Reid, Sarah Sexton, and Louisa Bacio all checked in every day and kept me focused on working and getting those words down even when I wanted to sit on my ass and knit.

As soon as I figure out how I can get the words from my brain on to paper without needing my hands I'll never stop knitting! :)

This isn't the end for this book though. I was a NaNo rebel this year. I started the month working on a short story for the Romancing the Capital convention in April. When I hit "The End" on that book, (at 16830 words) I switched gears and started working on a new full length novel.

I do have a goal of 70K on this new book and I want to have it finished by the end of December. I'm 33,526 words into it which means I need to write 36,474 words in the next 33 days.

Piece of cake :)

Day 7 of NaNoWriMo 2014

Today is the end of the first week of NaNo and I'm proud of myself. I have little green bars every day, meaning I've met the minimum required words to ensure I'll hit 50K by the 30th.

In fact, I'm ahead of the game. I could take today off no problem, I could take tomorrow off too and not feel any extra pressure, I bet I could take the next day off and still make it.... see where I'm going here. I'm my own worst enemy in November. It's not from a lack of ideas, or writer's block or any other excuse I can come up with.

Bottom line, I get lazy.

I know I do and I have this incredible ability to talk myself into not doing anything or procrastinating to the point where I have totally screwed myself and there isn't enough coffee in the world to aid me to the finish line.

But, not this year. I'm going to stay on target and get'er done. I know where I'm going and what I want to write. I read somewhere that if you do something every day for 21 days it will turn into a habit. So if I keep the course and write everyday no matter what and I get 21 green bars in a row, I wonder if it will get easier. Will the habit nudge out my inherent laziness?

Only one way to find out......

Happy November!

See the cute little word counter over to the right? ----->

Yup that's me hard at work on my newest project.
NaNo has a gorgeous steampunk feel to its graphics this year and I'm determined that I'm going to kick the 50K ass.
My goal is 60K!
Yes, you read that right. I'm pointing to the bleachers and giving the pitcher the stink eye. I'm going to knock this one out of the park this November. 2k a day is my goal and so far I'm keeping up to the pace. I'm not saying that I'll trip up at some point. That's a given. but hopefully I'll have a bit of extra stored up for those days that I just can't get to the computer.

Also there is my on going goal to keep up with blog posts and website updates. That's something I've always struggled with

I can't complain on how things have worked out so far. I have two publishing contracts with Decadent Publishing's 1NS line and am in the middle of edits for them. You can click on the pages above for more information about my books and projects.

It's a little bit strange starting over with a new name. Not many of you know that this is my second pen name, bonus points to anyone who knows my other alias ;)  But, it's exciting because I'm not governed by the same rules I was before. I can write what ever I want and what ever genre I want. Maybe that is why this month is so exciting to me? The last time I won NaNoWriMo was when I was working on my second or third book before (I've forgotten now, LOL 18 books will do that.)

While I like to think I'm a little older and a little wiser, I still feel like this is a freshly paved road and I've got on my favourite pair of runners....and my ass looks like the chick in the picture.

But, that's enough sports metaphors for one day. I've got to go feed my muse some chocolate. See you at the finish line.

Sabine Babineaux, daughter to the mayor of New Orleans and waitress at The Three Princesses bar, has her life upended after a late night at work. Kidnapped, Sabine is determined to escape, but once she’s free her fight has only just begun.

Stuart Renwick and Kyle Novak, detectives with New Orleans police department, are assigned a kidnapping case with multiple victims. However, when one of the missing women, Sabine Babineaux, is practically dropped in their lap, everything they know about being detectives is tossed by the wayside.

Now, in a race against time to find out who the kidnapper is, and prevent anyone else being snatched, Sabine, Stuart, and Kyle must work together.

Sparks fly, between the three of them, but will it be their downfall?

With someone watching them, tragedy strikes when they least expect it. Will Sabine survive long enough to explore her feelings for both detectives? Or will Stuart and Kyle fall at the hand of her kidnapper?

Excerpt:

The cab came to a stop some time later and she sat up. The world spun on its axis. The sound of bees buzzing filled her ears as she broke out in a cold sweat and she began to shake violently. Sabine tried in vain to make her body cooperate with her, but it was a no go. Her brain was muddled and nothing made sense anymore. Not even her body would oblige her and move. “Where am I?” Sabine whispered, licking her lips.
“The lady is right here,” the cabbie said, opening the door. “She bleeding and wearing next to nothing.”
A thread of embarrassment slid through her, but as quickly as it was there, it was gone. “Help me,” she croaked. The world around her was slowly floating away. No matter how much she tried to keep her eyes open, she couldn’t gather the strength needed to do so. “I…can’t…go…back.” Unconsciousness, blissful yet scary, drifted around her, cradling her into a void of nothingness.
“No you don’t, sweetheart.” A gruff voice called to her, drawing her out of the darkness. “Come back to us.”
Sabine’s eyes fluttered open, then shut again. She didn’t want to open her eyes. The darkness was safe.  It was comfortable there. There was no pain. No cages. Freedom lurked in the darkness.
“Ambulance is on the way,” another male said. His voice was an octave higher than the penetrating baritone of the first man. “It’s our kidnapping victim.”
Congratulations, you win the booby prize.
“Yeah it is,” person one said. “When did you say that ambulance would be here?” In the distance she could hear the warble of noise. Finally she could sleep. “Hey now.” The man’s rough palm patted her cheek. “Wake up, sweetheart. Stay with us.”
Sabine groaned and turned away from him.
“They’re both through and throughs, Stuart, and she’s lost a good amount of blood.”
So man one did have a name. Stuart. His name was both sexy and bold, invoking delicious images of the man holding her hand. When did he take my hand? How come I can’t remember how I got here?
“Damn it,” he cursed. “If they don’t hurry their asses up, we’re going to lose our victim. Call them back Kyle and tell them to double time it.”
Kyle. His name was just as delectable as Stuart’s. I wonder what he looks like. A part of her was using anything she could think of to stay right there, even though she could feel the darkness surrounding her.
Sabine groaned as she was jostled around. The prick of a needle in her arm caused her to whimper. “Stop.” With a weak gesture she tried to push them away and a hand appeared in hers, squeezing it.
“You gave me a scare girl,” Stuart said close to her ear. “Stay with Kyle and I. Don’t try going anywhere again.” What was he talking about? “Is she ready?”
“Yes, we’re loading her up now. Are you following?”
Sabine half listened to the conversation around her, trying to stay with Stuart like he asked her to do.
“I’m riding with you. My partner will give you the escort.” The soft cushion she lay on lifted up momentarily, jostling her around, then slid into something. In no time they were rolling. “Sabine, we’re going to get you fixed up. I promise.”
She muttered something and a sharp burning sensation raced up her arm, then everything inside of her mellowed out, relaxing her completely. Oh hell yeah, that’s the good stuff. Instead of fighting the darkness she went with it. It was light and peaceful. The pain that radiated through her whole body relented and she could finally breathe without feeling as though her chest was being squeezed to death. Just a little nap and then I’ll tell them everything. The heavy darkness wrapped its tendrils around her and she fell into the deepest sleep she’d had in weeks.

IT HAPPENED!!!

Decadent Publishing has accepted Pursuing Their Fantasies!!

This book was written specifically for their 1NS series. If you believe in love at first sight...or almost first sight, I highly recommend you check them out. There are a ton of incredible authors who have written a story in this series

Pursuing Their Fantasies is a hot menage romp set during a Mexico vacation. There's two muscular, sexy, undercover cops, a beautiful, curvy, blond, and an Aztec god found in a very open minded resort. How can silky smooth lies, cold sacrifices and white hot sex all lead to happily ever after?

As soon as I know a release date I can tell you.  :)

But, for now I have to get back to work. I already have a sub-series of my own planned to submit to 1NS and can't wait to get it started, but more on those later ;). LOL

I love Kennedy Layne

I've been lucky enough to meet Kennedy Layne in person and she really is one of the sweetest friendliest authors I've ever met. I love her CSA Case Files Series. :)

 Sinful Resurrection

CSA Case Files, Book 2
Available now from:

Sins of the past have been resurrected, predetermining their path to love. Can they overcome the treacherous obstacles set before them?
Jax Christensen likes his life just the way it is. He has his work, his club, and the occasional naked submissive to take his mind off everything else. He doesn’t talk about the past, as there is no point in reminiscing about things that cannot be altered. His chest has an empty hole where his heart used to be, but he’s grown accustomed to the constant pain. It’s become the only thing that reminds Jax that he’s alive.
Emily Weiss has never forgotten the one and only man she’s ever loved. She’s hidden for two long years in an attempt to protect Jax and herself, desperate to try and stay one step ahead of those who want her dead. She has information that could destroy the United Nations. Unfortunately, they want to eliminate her first. Emily’s exhausted and wants more than anything to feel safe once more. That was how she felt in Jax’s strong arms and she longs to be there again.
When Jax sees that Emily has risen from the grave, his heart and soul are full of anger and regret. He’ll never forgive her lies and deception. He will, however, keep her safe. He hates her for what she’s done, but he doesn’t want her death on his conscience. He’ll protect her and then walk away.
Secrets are revealed and the danger is more sinister and deadly than anyone could have guessed. Jax and Emily are forced on the run and the passion they once felt for one another burns even hotter and brighter the second time around. Jax doesn’t know how he’ll walk away this time or if he even wants to. Emily is determined to expose a high-level official within the United Nations and walk away unscathed. She wants a second chance with her first love — even if it kills her.

EXCERPT
He’d cataloged three people in the room.  Crest was behind his desk, Emily was standing in front of him, and one other person was to his right.  Jax didn’t give the man a second glance.  He didn’t give a shit who the tight ass suit was.  He only cared about the woman standing in front of him.  Emily slowly turned and faced him, her blue eyes filled with regret and something else he couldn’t name.  Whatever it was couldn’t hold a candle to the rage that was simmering in his veins.  He changed his mind.  There was no reason fucking good enough for what she’d put him through, only to turn up two years later as if nothing had happened.
“Jax, you need to listen to me,” Crest said, coming into his line of vision.
Jax turned and within seconds had Crest shoved up against the wall with his forearm against his boss’s throat.  He was breathing hard, waiting for an excuse to be able to physically take out his frustration on another human being.  Finally clearing the haze from his eyes, it dawned on him that Crest had known all along who Emily was and what her connection was to Jax.  What else did Crest know?  He pulled his arm back, with every intention of getting retribution.
“Jax, please don’t.”
Emily’s voice cut through the miasma that had surrounded him.  He was trained better and knew that the slightest hesitation gave the other person the advantage, but it was too late.  Before Jax could blink Crest brought up his hands, breaking the hold.  Jax found himself up against the wall, Crest in total control.
“I’m going to release you and you’re going to listen, because Emily’s life depends on it.”  Crest’s voice never wavered, instead remaining calm and cool like his demeanor.  That caused Jax to feel even more rage, but he bottled it quickly, knowing Crest had the upper hand at the moment.  Jax relaxed his muscles, leaning his weight on the wall.  He could play this game with the best of them.  Crest continued to speak.  “I know this looks bad, Jax, but she had good reason for what she did.”
“Just like you had good reason to keep it from me?” Jax asked, unable to keep all of his fury contained.  He remained as still as Crest, relaxed in his hold, and waited until the man took a step back.  Jax wiped the back of his hand over his mouth, unable to believe this was really happening.  Disloyalty was something he couldn’t tolerate.  He thought Crest held the same morals, but apparently not.  “Nothing will ever make that right, Top.”
Jax had purposefully used the nickname that grunts used in reference to Master Sergeants in the Marines.  He wanted — no, needed — to drill into Crest what an intimate betrayal this was.  He personally had never called Gavin Crest by the nickname that Connor seemed to use like a minion did to a god.  He understood his friend’s need to be grateful to Crest for giving them a chance to live their lives as a normal civilian, but Jax felt like he’d repaid his debt tenfold.  He did his job and he did it well.  No one could ask for more.
Connor had repeatedly said that Jax had changed on their last combat tour.  Emily’s absence from his life had done that to him and made him realize what a person went through when people were ripped away.  Switching his gaze to the woman he would have laid his life down for made him understand that her death would have been easier to accept.  Her perfidy and deceit was just too much.
“Jax, I didn’t know until a month ago,” Crest explained.  He took another step back, as if unsure how Jax would react, before slowly moving to stand in front of his desk.  He loosened his tie and then made sure his cuff links were still in place.  Jax couldn’t bring himself to look Emily in the eye and instead concentrated on Crest.  She disgusted him and the only way he was going to get through this was if he listened to what Crest had to say and then left for his flight out of the country.  He wanted to be anywhere but here.  Crest motioned to the other man.  “This is Schultz Jessalyn, Special Assistant to the National Security Advisor.”
Jax ignored the man who still stood on the other side of the room.  There was no need for introductions, regardless of this man’s position.  He could be the fucking Pope and Jax wouldn’t have cared.  Not wanting to appear anything else but bored with this conversation, Jax stepped forward and crossed his arms.  The faster he dealt with this the sooner he could leave.
“I have a flight to catch,” Jax said, keeping his tone even.  He thought about quitting, handing in his resignation right here and now, but the assignment that would take him around the world and away from the duplicity that was filling up this room sounded even better.  “Don’t worry, Crest.  I’ll do my job.”
“Jessie is on her way in,” Crest said, as if Jax hadn’t spoken.  His dark green eyes zeroed in on Jax. “She’s going to change your flight information over to Lach.  He’s taking the overseas assignment.  I need you here.  Emily needs you here.”
Jax ground his teeth together to prevent himself from saying they could all go fuck themselves, but something held him back.  Even though it felt like he was roasting his entire body over excruciatingly hot flames, he forced himself to really look at Emily.  She’d dyed her dark brown hair to a light blonde, although she had left the length that he used to love to play with and still dreamed about.  She was slightly thinner than he remembered, but he could find no sympathy that she might have stressed over the choices that she’d made.  Her athletic build was still there, although slightly less obvious.  There were shadows underneath her blue eyes and her skin had taken on a pale pallor, yet still he could feel their enduring connection.  A mental barrier shifted into place, blocking out any emotion that may have lingered.  Emily had no idea the hell she was putting him through but he immediately had closure that he hadn’t before.  She was deader to him now more than ever.  That switch was thrown.
“She made her choice.”  Jax turned on the heel of his boot and walked to the door.  He changed his mind on quitting.  “You’ll have my resignation on your desk by the end of the day.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

www.kennedylayne.com

First and foremost, I love life.  I love that I'm a wife, mother, daughter, sister...and a writer.

I am one of the lucky women in this world who gets to do what makes them happy.  As long as I have a cup of coffee (maybe two or three) and my laptop, the stories evolve themselves and I try to do them justice.  I draw my inspiration from a retired Marine Master Sergeant that swept me off of my feet and has drawn me into a world that fulfills all of my deepest and darkest desires.  Erotic romance, military men, intrigue, with a little bit of kinky chili pepper (his recipe), fill my head and there is nothing more satisfying than making the hero and heroine fulfill their destinies.

Thank you for having joined me on their journeys...
